Nottingham bar which was closed for a decade could be turned into shops

Plans have been drawn up to convert a dilapidated Nottingham bar into new shops with flats above.

Murphy's, next door to the West End Arcade in Upper Parliament Street, has been closed for around a decade.

Fairytale-themed tearoom Storybooks took over part of the building after relocating from the basement of vintage emporium Hopkinson in Station Street in 2018.

But the fantasy-styled cafe didn't stay open for long. The ground floor of the property has been boarded up since.

Proposals for a change of use have been submitted to Nottingham City Council.

The applicant is hoping to create new shops and two self-contained flats on the upper floors.

The plans state: "The alterations proposed seek to enhance the overall appearance of the property, which has fallen into a state of disrepair and currently detract from the street scene and the locality."

The developer wants to remove the ornate balcony rail and windows on the first floor and replace with grey aluminium framed windows.
