Nottingham actress Sherrie Hewson gets tech savvy

Nottingham actress Sherrie Hewson has joined the band digitally savvy older people.

The star of Benidorm and Coronation Street said she would have been lost without FaceTime during the pandemic and she has around 70 apps on her iPhone.

One of them is an app called Readly, a digital newspaper and magazine subscription service.

It's something, she said, her late mum Joy Meakin, who died aged 89 in 2012, would have enjoyed.

"I wish it had been there for my mum. You have access to 5,000 magazines and newspapers. She was an avid reader, she'd have loved this.

"It was saying in the stats 44 per cent of seniors now are into technology and 73 per cent will follow on through to the future which is fantastic. It is the future. It's not dear at all so I would suggest anybody gets it. It doesn't matter what age you are - it's for everybody.

"It won't stop people from buying magazines but you can be on a train, on a plane if ever we can, on holiday, anywhere, go onto this and you have access straight away. You can download articles and can share with your family. It's the most amazing app and I wish it had been around earlier.

"My mum would have just loved this. She wasn't brilliant with her phone but she'd have learnt how to do it because it's so clever and so simple.

"It would have kept her in touch with all the magazines that I'm in and she'd be able to say 'you look terrible, what you've got on is awful, and you've got far too much make-up on' and she'd have loved that because she'd have been able to get straight at me and say 'next time don't wear that colour, it's no good for you'.

"She did it anyway but on Readly she'd have been able to do it all day long because you can access articles that have already been on and she'd have gone 'now three weeks ago...'"

Readly is a digital subscription service that lets customers have unlimited access to about 5,000 national and international magazines - all in one app. Readly is offering 2 months of free reading for sign ups throughout October and £7.99 per month there after.
