Nottingham academy to create new sports hall in bid to increase pupil spaces

Plans for a new £42,000 sports hall have been given approval for a Nottingham school as it bids to increase its pupil capacity. Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, which says it is currently "significantly oversubscribed", is trying to increase its student admissions for September this year.

The new four-court sports hall, which was given financial approval by Nottingham City Council on April 14, is "much-needed" for the academy and its pupils, says the Archway Learning Trust. The plans come as part of the trust's £2.2m project to increase capacity.

A spokesperson from the Archway Learning Trust said: “The current sports hall is too small to accommodate the number of students needed to deliver the curriculum or examinations so the proposed plan is a much-needed addition to meet the needs of the academy and its learners, as well as providing a community space.”

The trust was unable to answer how many places would be created for the new school year when asked by Nottinghamshire Live.
