Notting Hill Carnival weather: Londoners set for scorching heat at Europe's biggest street party

More than one million people heading to this year's Notting Hill Carnival will be partying in what could be record-breaking temperatures.

The upcoming bank holiday weekend could see glorious sunshine replace the wind and rain that has so far dogged the month, it is predicted.

Forecasters say London could see temperatures between 29C and 31C for both Carnival days on Sunday and Monday.

From Friday, south-easterly winds will draw warm air from Europe towards the UK, bringing rising temperatures along with dry and settled weather, The Met Office said.

And by Monday, temperatures may reach 33C (91.4F) – beating the bank holiday record of 31.5C measured at Heathrow in 2001.

So revellers will flock to west London in the baking heat to watch some 50,000 performers on 70 stages, while enjoying rum and barbecued jerk chicken.

Met Office meteorologist Matthew Box said: "At the moment we are going to see the temperatures across the south ranging between 27C and 33C.

“So we are getting a warm bank holiday weekend. But in the north, its going to be cloudier and cooler with outbreaks of rain.”

“In London we are probably looking at 29C on Saturday, 29-31 on Sunday and there is certainly a chance temperatures could reach the low 30s on Monday.”

Mr Box said the south can expect “lots of dry weather and sunshine for the rest of August."

“Temperatures will be above average and very warm in the south east especially but there is a risk of some thundery showers during this period,” he said.
