Notting Hill Carnival 2020 countdown planned for Piccadilly Circus

Notting Hill Carnival will kick-off with a countdown on the big screen at Piccadilly Circus before Europe’s biggest street party goes digital for 2020.

Organisers have lined up a host of video and music to celebrate carnival’s 54-year history, which will be streamed online in place of the traditional parties across the August bank holiday weekend.

Radio presenters DJ Ace and Remel London will host the three-day virtual event showing performances and big-name speakers alongside films celebrating the vibrant food, dance, music and culture.

There will be exclusive sets from sound systems, calypso dancers, and steelpan bands throughout the weekend.

Other presenters include BBC Radio London’s Aurie Styla and Claire Clottey, as well as DJ Martin Jay.

A spokesman for sponsors Samnsung said: “The move to digital both encourages the safety and well-being of the carnival community, the general public and local residents, but also allows the Notting Hill Carnival to grow as a global spectacle online, for the world to enjoy safely from their home.”

It kicks off on London’s Piccadilly screen with an exclusive trailer before the full schedule starts at nhcarnival.org.

Samsung, the official partner, will showcase a series of mini films to shine a spotlight on the ‘Colours of Carnival’ in Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross, through the weekend.
