Notre Dame's bowl game to be chosen by lottery

Dec. 02--Where will Notre Dame go bowling this season?

Thanks to the Irish's ACC tie-in, it will depend on the luck of the draw.

Notre Dame's bowl game will be determined by a drawing Sunday in Charlotte, N.C., among interested bowls, the Raleigh News Observer reported. The Irish (7-5) join a pool of five other teams -- Clemson, Louisville, Duke, Boston College and North Carolina State -- eligible for the ACC's "Tier One" bowls and the Russell Athletic Bowl.

With Florida State and Georgia Tech likely to play in the College Football Playoff or one of the four other selection committee bowls, Clemson is the likely option for the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Fla., the report said.

That would leave the other bowls with ACC tie-ins -- the Belk (Charlotte, N.C.), Pinstripe (New York), Sun (El Paso Texas) and either Music City (Nashville, Tenn.) or TaxSlayer (Jacksonville, Fla.) -- to sort out the remaining five teams. The Irish played in the Pinstripe Bowl last season and the Sun Bowl after the 2010 season.

After the Russell Athletic Bowl makes its selection, there is no order for which of the remaining bowls gets to select first. So those bowls interested in selecting Notre Dame must submit themselves for the drawing, and the winner gets the option to select Notre Dame.
