SOUTH BEND, Ind. _ Josh Adams rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as No. 22 Notre Dame beat Miami (Ohio), 52-17. The junior running back did all his damage in eight carries. He left the game late in the first quarter with an apparent left leg injury.
Adams scored on a 73-yard run on the second play from scrimmage. He added a 59-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter.
Quarterback Brandon Wimbush had three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. He completed 7 of 18 passes for 119 yards.
Wide receivers Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown and Miles Boykin had touchdown receptions for the Irish (4-1).
Backup running back Deon McIntosh added a 26-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Notre Dame scored 28 points in the first quarter, its most in any quarter since scoring 28 in the second against Pittsburgh on Sept. 3, 2005.
The Irish had 45 points at halftime. It was the most first-half points for the Irish in a game since they had 49 against Pittsburgh on Nov. 9, 1968.
Quarterback Gus Ragland had 262 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Miami (2-3).
