Notre Dame forward Bonzie Colson out 8 weeks with foot fracture

Notre Dame All-America forward Bonzie Colson is expected to miss eight weeks after suffering a left foot fracture, the school announced Tuesday.

The injury occurred during practice this week, according to the school. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday.

"We are feeling it for Bonzie right now, who was performing as well as any player in the country," coach Mike Brey said in a statement. "We need to embrace this challenge. This program has lost key guys before and figured out a way to earn an NCAA bid."

Colson, the preseason ACC Player of the Year, leads the Irish in points (21.4 per game) and rebounding (10.4). He had 22 points and matched his career high with 17 rebounds in Saturday's 68-59 win over Georgia Tech. It was his ninth double-double of the season and the 32nd of his career.

The Irish will have to adapt quickly to losing Colson. Notre Dame (11-3, 1-0 ACC) plays North Carolina State (10-4, 0-1) on Wednesday at Purcell Pavilion.
