Notre Dame fire: Social media search for 'dad and daughter' captured in poignant photograph before blaze

A tourist who captured a poignant image of a man and young girl playing outside Notre Dame an hour before flames took hold wants to find the pair she photographed.

Brooke Windsor shared the picture of a gentleman swinging the youngster around on Twitter in hope of tracking him down to share it with him.

Ms Windsor, who believed the pair might be father and daughter, wrote on Twitter: “I took this photo as we were leaving Notre Dame about an hour before it caught on fire.

“I almost went up to the dad and asked if he wanted it. Now I wish I had. Twitter if you have any magic, help him find this.”

The photo, which showed the iconic site basked in sunlight with blue skies above it before flames took hold, was taken at 5.57pm local time in Paris.

As the picture spread, she added: “I do not know for sure if it was a dad and daughter, it’s simply the dynamic I observed from them while debating on interrupting this moment. It may be an uncle, brother, friend, who knows until we find them.”

It has been shared more than 100,000 times with thousands of replies.

Those replying spoke of their hope the man would be found.

One wrote: “This photo captures connections between generations, between eras. It is so beautiful, so poignant.”

The world famous Notre Dame in Paris was ravaged by a fire on Monday.

Fire decimated a spire and spread throughout the building, though firefighters managed to save some of the structure.

A selection of some of the cathedral's most precious objects, including a relic purported to be the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ on the cross, were rescued.

More than 600 million euros has been pledged by billionaires and companies hoping to help repair the building.
