Notre Dame fire: How you can donate to HUGE fundraising effort to rebuild Paris cathedral

A fundraising appeal has been launched on behalf of Notre Dame cathedral after the iconic landmark was ravaged by flames.

Hundreds of firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze of Paris' cultural and historic "epicentre" on Monday night.

Devastated Parisians watched in horror as the flames sent the spire of the 850-year-old Gothic masterpiece tumbling down to the ground.

Teams raced to recover priceless relics, and now efforts are under way to raise the money to rebuild the famous structure.

Fondation du Patrimoine, a French private organisation which works to protect the country's heritage, has launched an international fundraising appeal.

The page titled "Sauvons Notre Dame" claims more than 1.6m euros have already been donated within hours of the blaze.

It reads: "To meet multiple requests, the Heritage Foundation has decided to launch a national collection for the reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris.

"No management fees will be charged."

Anyone looking to donate to the restoration of Notre Dame can do so in the following ways:

  • By donating online at the fundraising page .
  • By sending a cheque payable to the "Heritage Foundation - Save Our Lady" to the address Heritage Foundation - Île-de-France Delegation 
    153 Bis Avenue, Charles De Gaulle, 92200 Neuilly sur Seine

The blaze, which broke out as the last crowds of tourists ended visits at around 6pm BST (7pm local time), was finally declared to be "completely under control" nearly nine hours later.

Pompiers de Paris reported two police officers and one firefighter had been injured while tackling the blaze.

French president Emmanuel Macron has since called upon the international community to work together to rebuild the famous cathedral.
