Notoriously aggressive 'Facebook gangster' criminal Bernard Fogarty has face slashed in gruesome Cloverhill prison assault

An aggressive Dublin criminal who is notorious for his Facebook rants and call-out videos had his face slashed in Cloverhill Prison on Sunday night in a gory assault, Dublin Live can exclusively reveal.

Bernard Fogarty - who has tendencies to "black out", as claimed by himself, and cause havoc on nights out - received several lacerations to his face and was brought to Tallaght Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The 32-year-old, father-of-two northside thug has over 20 previous convictions, including one for assault and one for criminal damage, and is well known to Gardai.

Photos and videos started circulating around social media last night which claimed that the gangster had his face sliced in the prison as part of a warning against speaking out about other criminals to officers.

One photo of Fogarty had the caption: "Face hanging off him, how's the Facebook gangster now?"

A different picture of the thug in a vehicle was captioned: "Dirtbag. Owl wet the bed (a phrase coined by Fogarty in previous Facebook call-out videos) with no face and no bed."

A video was also taken outside Tallaght Hospital where the person behind the camera can be heard sarcastically saying: "Wonder how auld Bernard [Fogarty] is now, if he's doing his little Facebook videos now in Tallaght Hospital while he's nursing his wounds."

A source told Dublin Live that the assault was extremely grim and that the criminal had been left with serious facial wounds.

They said: "It was more of a slashing than it was a stabbing.

They added: "He received lacerations to the facial area and was immediately brought to hospital."

A spokesman for The Irish Prison Service told Dublin Live: "We can confirm on the 23 August, a prisoner was involved in an incident in Cloverhill Prison."

He added: "An Gardaí Siochana were notified."
