Notorious Scots killer 'leaves fellow inmate fighting for life after prison attack'

A notorious killer has 'left another prisoner fighting for his life after a brutal attack inside' according to prison sources.

Murderer James O'Rourke is alleged to have targeted Dean Ramsey at Glenochil Prison near Alloa at the weekend.

Ramsey, from Maryhill, Glasgow, was slashed across the throat during the attack on Saturday morning, and is currently in prison in a critical condition.

O’Rourke, 50, who is nicknamed Porky, has previously been dubbed “one of Scotland’s most dangerous” prisoners due to the number of jail attacks he carried out over the years.

Prison sources said Dean, known as Deano, was slashed then stabbed in the neck.

The source said: "Porky doesn't need an excuse to target anyone but he and Deano had an altercation which led to him being attacked in his cell by Porky. He's got nothing to lose so he's dangerous."

The incident happened around 11.30am on Saturday at the jail, and is the latest prison attack to be linked to O’Rourke who has been behind bars since 1992.

O'Rourke was given life for murdering Neil Cairney, 32, in Airdrie and was later given an added six years for holding a prison officer and nurse hostage at Glenochil in 1997.

In 2002 he was jailed for an abduction and assault before another jail attack left him with another four years added to his term.

In 2005 he was given another eight years for stabbing a prison escort and a senior jail official at HMP Kilmarnock.

And in June 2019 he was given his latest sentence of nine years for slitting the throat of fellow killer Thomas Peacock, 35, as they exercised in the prison gym.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 11.30 am on Saturday, 9 January, 2021, police were called after a man was found seriously injured within Glenochil Prison, Clackmannanshire.

“He was taken by ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

“Enquiries into how he came about his injuries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman confirmed an incident had taken place, but declined to comment due to the ongoing police investigation.
