Notorious Irish drug boss Larry Dunne dies aged 72

Ireland's original drug king Larry Dunne has died.

The 72 year-old passed away in St James Hospital in Dublin on Monday.

The veteran crime lord was the man who introduced heroin to Dublin in the 1970s and 1980s.

The drug devastated huge swathes of the city and caused thousands of deaths.

Dunne was a member of a notorious inner-city crime family that terrorised the city.

But his legacy to Dublin was the scourge of heroin which he shipped in from the UK after making drug contacts there in the 70s.

He is widely regarded as having paved the way for generations of crime lords that followed in his footsteps.

As he was led away to face a 10 year jail term for heroin dealing in 1983 he famously told reporters: “If you think we were bad wait ‘til you see what’s coming after us.”
