A notorious gang of local drug dealers launched a sustained petrol bomb attack on an inner city military hospital in response to a seizure blow that the criminals were dealt with recently, Dublin Live can exclusively reveal.
St Bricin's Military Hospital, which treats members of the Irish Defence Forces, was targeted in a series of relentless attacks during a weekend of horror just gone by.
The bombardment of the hospital and the guards hut at Montpelier Gardens in Arbour Hill, Stoneybatter was nonstop on Friday and Saturday.
The thugs are said to have started the retaliation attack after Gardai seized a quantity of drugs belonging to the O’Devaney Gardens gang last week.
It is understood that as many as three separate attacks were launched, in which petrol bombs were lit and hurled at the hospital, setting the hut ablaze while soldiers were inside on guard duty.
But there was also several botched attempts where the explosives were aimed inside the gates but failed to explode on landing.
A source told Dublin Live: On Friday and Saturday, the Defence Forces' Bricin's hospital was firebombed three times.
"These were non-stop attacks by a known local drug dealing gang who operate from O’Devaney Gardens.
"The petrol bombs were consequences of a local drug find by Gardai earlier last week.
"At least three bombs, fully ignited, were thrown inside and set the gate of the policeman’s hut on fire with soldiers inside on those occasions.
"You can visibly see various black scorch marks to the structure as you enter the hospital.
"On other occasions petrol bombs were thrown over but failed to light.
"Authorities are at a loss and don't know what to do regarding the matter."
A spokesman for The Defence Forces said: "We are aware of several incidents that occurred in the vicinity of the entrance to Saint Bricin's Military Hospital on both the 02 and 03 of October 20."
He added: "These incidents have been reported to An Garda Siochána."
