Notion has rolled out a bunch of new updates to its core database experience in version 2.52. It aims to simplify how users manage, search, and interact with information across workspaces. The company revealed the new features in a detailed thread on X, calling it the “biggest refresh to date” for databases. So let’s take a closer look at everything announced from Notion.
A Cleaner Look and New “Feed View”
The biggest highlight of this update is the completely redesigned databases across web, desktop, and mobile. Notion says tables now appear cleaner, with simplified settings and less visual clutter. It also allows you to group, rename, or insert properties directly from the menu.
Along with the redesigned databases, the company has also introduced a new feed view. It can turn any database into a scrollable content stream. This is especially useful for tracking status updates, user feedback, bug reports, and other ongoing projects. The feature also supports emoji reactions and comments, bringing a social feel to project tracking.
Smarter AI in Research Mode and Expanded Search

Notion AI is now more deeply integrated with databases through a new Research Mode. It allows you to ask highly specific questions like “Which sales accounts mention data residency in Europe?” and receive answers based on page content and database properties. Notion AI also includes citations so that you can verify sources.
Furthermore, Notion is also expanding the scope of its Enterprise Search. With Gmail integration, you can ask AI to surface old email threads or updates buried deep in your inboxes, all while keeping strict privacy controls in place. The same goes for Linear, where Notion AI can now search through issues and projects.
CSV Import and Dev Tools Get a Boost

Importing data is now more precise. The update now allows you to define the property type for each column while importing CSV files. It makes the database setup faster and cleaner. Besides, developers can now connect apps built with Replit directly to Notion databases.

However, that’s not all. The company is also developing one of the most requested features: database row permissions. This feature is now officially in the works and is expected to arrive soon. It will allow admins to assign a specific database page to a user, who will only see that individual row instead of the entire database.
That’s a wrap from Notion for now. But all these updates indicate that Notion is in no mood to slow down; in fact, the company is doubling down on making databases both more approachable and more powerful. Whether it’s better design, advanced AI search, or long-awaited permission controls, the update marks a clear push toward positioning databases as the central workspace tool for individuals and teams alike.
