'Nothing was ever too much trouble for her' - tributes to hospice nurse who has died from coronavirus

Tributes have been paid to a nurse at Bolton Hospice who has died from coronavirus.

Gill Oakes died at Royal Bolton Hospital last night, devastated hospice bosses announced today.

Ms Oakes, who was employed as a senior clinical support nurse, had worked at the hospice for almost a quarter of a century.

Paying tribute to Ms Oakes, the hospice's chief executive, Leigh Vallance, said: "I am devastated to share news of the loss of our friend and colleague, Senior Clinical Support Nurse Gill Oakes. Gill died last night at Royal Bolton Hospital after contracting Coronavirus.

"She was a dedicated and compassionate member of our team, caring for patients at Bolton Hospice for nearly 24 years. She will be dearly missed by us all.

"Gill was the sort of person who always offered to help others – nothing was ever too much trouble for her.

"She was a brilliant nurse who often helped new members of the team settle into their role at the hospice. We will always remember her kindness and her lovely smile.

"We’d like to thank our colleagues at Royal Bolton Hospital for taking care of Gill, and our thoughts are with her family at this impossibly sad time."
