‘Nothing’s changed’ for Larry Fitzgerald about potential return to Cardinals

Legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has never said that he has retired from the NFL. It looks like it and he said months ago that he had no desire to play at that point.

But a recent injury to Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins opened the door to a possible return to the Cardinals for a playoff run, considering they are 10-4 and lead the NFC West.

Plenty of people want to see it and it would make for a potentially magical ending to his career.

However, nothing has happened and it appears nothing will.

This week, on the SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray,” Fitzgerald addressed the question.

Would he reconsider and come back to the NFL?

“Nothing’s changed on that front for me,” he said, “but my heart goes out to both of those guys.”

He referred to Hopkins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin, who suffered a torn ACL Sunday night.

Fitzgerald is rooting for the Cardinals, though, and hopes Hopkins can be back to play while the Cardinals are still alive in the postseason.

“I hope DeAndre is able to recover in time to be able to come back and play on the biggest stage,” he said. “The Cardinals have to win one game to clinch a playoff berth and it is my sincere hope that he’s able to be out there with them.”

If Fitzgerald were going to come back and play, now would be the time. If nothing has changed, then we should know he isn’t coming back again.

The next time we see him at State Farm Stadium will probably be for a Ring of Honor induction and/or retiring of his No. 11.
