NotebookLM in Your Pocket Is Now Faster and More Stable

NotebookLM recently launched its mobile app on both Android and iOS. Now, the company has quietly rolled out an important update to its app, which addresses issues with chat, sources, visuals, and stability. The company announced its latest update via its official X handle. So, let’s take a closer look at what Google has fixed in one of its most popular AI apps.

Chat Glitches and Timeouts Addressed

One of the biggest improvements in this update is the stability of the chat experience. Earlier, many users reported that conversations and descriptions were disappearing unexpectedly. Now, the company has patched this issue with the latest update. It also resolves the network timeout issue and streamlines the flow for adding sources to a notebook, cutting down on errors that occasionally halted progress.

Fixes for Source Upload and UI Quirks

Earlier, when users were trying to upload or manage larger documents, the app was crashing. Now, the company has fixed that issue, and according to the shared report, users uploading large documents will now see fewer interruptions. Apart from that, NotebookLM has also fixed a bug where users were erroneously told they had hit a “0 source limit” while adding new materials.

Moreover, the source UI was looking misaligned or cluttered on small-screen devices, which has now been optimized. The company has improved its usability across different screen sizes, which is quite important for mobile users on older or smaller phones.

A Sharper, More Accessible Visual Experience

Dark Mode has received an update, featuring smoother animations for the project description loader and clearer icons in both the Playback and Studio sections. Accessibility also sees a bump: the UI has been fine-tuned for larger font settings at the OS level, making the app easier to navigate for users with visual impairments or reading preferences.

Language and Notification Bugs Squashed

The localization on the app now supports more languages properly. The update also fixes a bug that was causing occasional crashes. Besides, users who are playing audio within the app will now see media control notifications more consistently. This is a small but meaningful touch-up.

Feature Sneak Peeks: What’s Next?

While replying to users’ questions on X, the NotebookLM team gave us a glimpse into what might be coming next:

  • Audio Visuals: Visuals synced with audio content are not out yet, but the company confirmed they’ll be available to all users and not just paid subscribers once it’s launched.
  • Bulk Imports: The ability to import website and YouTube links in bulk via comma-separated lists is “coming soon.”
  • Mind Map Feature: While there’s no release timeline, NotebookLM acknowledged high demand for a mobile-friendly Mind Map feature. The team is currently exploring how to make it work on small screens despite the interface complexity.

That’s all about NotebookLM for now. These updates make the mobile app more stable and improve the overall experience. In my view, this gives another push to Google’s AI efforts. According to Similarweb, NotebookLM’s monthly visits grew by 56% in the past six months, and that was before the mobile app even launched. Now that the app is out and more polished, that number is likely to rise even further.
