Notable PGA Tour players to miss the cut at the 2023 John Deere Classic

SILVIS, Ill. — As the PGA Tour season begins to wind down with the last major of the season and the FedEx Cup Playoffs on the horizon, the action is heating up at the 2023 John Deere Classic.

The Tour’s annual stop at TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities is known for putting rising talent into the spotlight and the young stars are shining after the first 36 holes. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for a handful of PGA Tour winners and fan favorites who will be leaving the tournament before the weekend party begins.

Joel Dahmen — 3 under

The fan-favorite following the release of the Netflix series Full Swing was in prime position to make the weekend after a 3-under 68 in the first round, but a ho-hum even-par 71 on Friday doomed him to miss the cut by just one shot after crucial bogeys on Nos. 15 and 18.

Nick Taylor — 4 over

Taylor is having a breakout season, including his win at home at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open earlier this summer, but he broke down in the field like an old tractor after rounds of 72-74 to miss the cut at 4 over by eight shots.

Adam Hadwin — 1 over

The Canadian just can’t catch a break these days. First he was violently tackled trying to celebrate his fellow countryman’s win last month in Toronto, and then he lost in a playoff last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Hadwin was never able to find his groove this week and struggled on the back nine Friday with a stretch of bogey-double-bogey on Nos. 14-16.

Taylor Moore — 2 under

Moore, 20th in the FedEx Cup standings, has consistently been in the mix this season when he’s made the cut, with 10 top-25 finishes over 16 made cuts. However, this week didn’t quite go as planned. Moore shot consecutive rounds of 1-under 70 and failed to take advantage of a scorable TPC Deere Run, missing the cut by two despite two rounds under par.

Emiliano Grillo — 2 under

The Argentine has put together a solid season so far with a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge and five top-10 finishes, but Grillo was in the same boat as Moore this week. He shot a 2-under 69 on Thursday but two bogeys and a double on Friday led to an even-par 71 and left him outside the cut line by two shots.
