Notable NFL players drafted 18th overall

The Vikings have the No. 18 pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

What kind of player will the Vikings get? Well, we aren’t exactly sure, but history tells us that the Vikings should certainly get an impactful player there.

Notable players drafted 18th overall include wide receiver Art Monk (1980), quarterback Joe Flacco (2008), defensive end Calvin Pace (2003), wide receiver Eddie Kennison (1996) and center Maurkice Pouncey (2010).

The recent picks are encouraging as well.

2018: CB, Jaire Alexander, Packers
2017: CB, Adoree’ Jackson, Titans
2016: C, Ryan Kelly, Colts
2015: CB, Marcus Peters, Chiefs
2014: DB, Calvin Pryor, Jets

Everyone but Pryor has been an impact player in the league.

The Vikings have had the 18th pick twice. In 1994, they selected defensive back Dewayne Washington. Washington had a solid 12-year career, although only four of those were with the Vikings.

In 2005, they selected defensive end Erasmus James, which was a huge bust. But the Vikings took wide receiver Troy Williamson with the seventh-overall pick, so this draft might have been doomed from the beginning.

An impactful player will be there for the Vikings to take. Rick Spielman and Co. can’t miss with this team ready to win now.
