‘Not what I like’ - Striker explains Nottingham Forest struggles after completing loan move

Nottingham Forest striker Nuno da Costa has said that the English style of football, plus not playing in his preferred position was two of the reasons he struggled to adapt to life at the City Ground.

The 29-year old will spend the season on loan at Belgian club Mouscron after spending just half a season at the City Ground after signing from French club Strasbourg in January.

He made just 10 appearances in a Forest shirt last season, providing just one Championship assist.

After making two Championship appearances this season, da Costa completed a temporary move to Belgium on deadline day.

Speaking to Belgian media after sealing the transfer, the player explained the differences between football in France and England.

“In Ligue 1, we could put the game down. In the Championship, it’s a direct game with a lot of commitment,” he told DH.

“The confinement allowed me to adapt to this particular style by gaining muscle but it’s not what I like. I like to rush and not wait behind in a block.”

Da Costa was mainly used as a winger during his time at Forest, although he is more comfortable in a more central position.

“I want to get back to my number 9 feeling. In England, I was playing on the sides but that’s not my job. Badibanga and Tabekou here are real wingers by training. They can give me some good balls,” he added.

The player will spend the rest of the 2020/21 season in Belgium before returning to the City Ground ahead of the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
