'Not surprised' - Sunderland fans react as Charlton deal the Black Cats a huge promotion blow

Charlton Athletic have dealt Sunderland a huge blow in the race for automatic promotion after ending the Black Cats 12-match unbeaten run.

Lee Johnson made three changes to the side who earned a draw at promotion rivals Peterborough United last time out, with Aiden O' Brien, Lynden Gooch and Josh Scowen all coming to the side.

The hosts were guilty of spurning several chances in the first-half, and were made to pay for these misses with a scrappy own-goal from Josh Scowen on the half-hour mark.

Poor defending allowed Alex Gilbey to double Charlton's lead in the second half, and a diving header from Scowen was not enough to galvanise a comeback from the hosts.

It was Sunderland's first defeat since their loss at Shrewsbury on February 9, and it is one that has taken automatic promotion out of their hands with seven matches to go.

Victories for Hull City and Peterborough United compounded the setback at the Stadium of Light, and this is how Black Cats supporters reacted to the loss at the Stadium of Light:

'Been coming for weeks'

'Questions to be asked'

'Defeat is inevitable in football'

'Lost as soon as the teamsheets came out'

'Not surprised'

'Poor day'
