'Not just Pride of London' - Fans react as Chelsea beat Arsenal and Livepool to top club ranking

Chelsea have beaten their Premier League rivals to be named England’s top football club for the last decade.

As well as leaving London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham in their wake, the Blues were also ranked above the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in the list compiled by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

The organisation ranks the teams based on points awarded based on results year on year and put together a final list of the top clubs in Europe over the period from 2011 and 2020.

Spanish giants Barcelona topped the list with 2877 points ahead of La Liga rivals Real Madrid and reigning European champions Bayern Munich.

The Blues were placed seventh overall in the final table with level on 2113 points with Manchester City as the joint top ranked Premier League side.

A hugely successful ten-year period saw Chelsea win two league titles, two FA Cups, the league cup and of course, the Champions League and two Europa League titles.

Fans were understandably pleased with the announcement and wasted little time in gloating about this latest accolade.

IFFHS Best Clubs of the decade top 10

  1. Barcelona
  2. Real Madrid
  3. Bayern Munich
  4. Paris Saint Germain
  5. Atletico Madrid
  6. Juventus
  7. Chelsea
  8. Manchester City
  9. Manchester United
  10. Arsenal

Chelsea’s achievements are all the more impressive given the club’s turnover of managers in that period with nine men sitting in the Stamford Bridge at one stage or another.

Speaking recently, the club’s owner Roman Abramovich defended the club’s approach.

“I think we are pragmatic in our choices,” he told Forbes. “And we are comfortable making the right changes at the right time to ensure we can achieve our long-term ambitions.

“I think the trophies speak for themselves and show what we as a club have been able to achieve over these years.”
