‘Not in our Land’: Americans rise in their opposition to Trump as ICE agents racially profile Latinos and detain them

One of the things Donald Trump has been focused on since assuming office for a second term this year has been his efforts to crack down on the immigrant population of the United States. To accomplish this, he has been collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which has been carrying out raids across the country for months, detaining undocumented immigrants, or as Trump and his Republican allies prefer to label them, ‘illegal aliens.’

When Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducts these raids, they often do so after receiving tips or information about the presence of ‘illegal aliens’ in a specific area. At other times, they simply hang around neighbourhoods and question individuals they find suspicious. Unfortunately, this selection process is largely influenced by racial profiling. As a result, Black, Latino, or Asian individuals are much more likely to be targeted and questioned, or worse, taken away in a truck, compared to white individuals. Evidence of this can be found on social media platforms, where daily testimonies from victims of ICE raids reveal that almost none of them are white. Republicans and Trump supporters may dispute these statistics, but the reality is quite clear.

Even well-known news outlets are bringing attention to the racial profiling involved in ICE raids. In a segment from MSNBC that has been gaining considerable attention online, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), a news anchor was seen discussing the strong likelihood of ICE agents selecting people by their race when questioning individuals about their immigration status.

Many people who saw this clip reacted by voicing their dissatisfaction with Donald Trump and his administration. One individual commented on a clip of the video:

“Not in our Land! Trump is president but he has no RIGHT to have ICE on our streets, he’s not fighting phantom xtimes he just wants a weak. Trump has already destroyed our White House he will not destroy our Democracy or US!!”

Another person also wrote:

“They have rights regardless of their immigration status”

Many others expressed similar sentiments. However, a significant number unequivocally supported Trump as if their lives depended on it. While there’s always a bad apple in every group, is this situation not a bit too much? What will it take for people to wake up and realise that Trump is actively harming Americans?
