'Not in a million years' - Gary Neville snubs Liverpool transfer question

Gary Neville has explained why he would never have played for Liverpool had the opportunity come his way.

The former Manchester United captain played for his boyhood club for the entirety of his playing career, spending close to 17 years at Old Trafford and racking up 599 appearances.

Since retiring from playing, Neville has formed a career as one of Sky Sports’ most renowned pundits alongside Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Neville has always been vocal about Liverpool when on his punditry duty, and he has mentioned the Reds yet again in a podcast.

Speaking on an episode of Sky Sports' Off Script, Neville was asked which clubs he would have considered joining had he ever left Man United.

In response to the question, Neville started by ruling out three he wouldn’t join “in a millions years” - one of those was Liverpool.

"You can rule out three," said Neville. "I’d have never have played for [Manchester] City, Liverpool or Leeds. Not in a million years.

"I don’t feel anything bad towards the players who did that, but me personally, I couldn’t have done it. The rivalry is just too much.

"If you’d said to me, in a perfect world, in my years of playing, which clubs in the Premier League have the tradition, a proper club?

"Arsenal would be No 1. The tradition of Highbury, I felt they did things the right way.

"Also in the Premier League, I like Aston Villa and Newcastle."
