'Not ideal timing' - Frank Lampard responds to Willian's comments on new deal frustrations

Frank Lampard admits Willian's comments over his Chelsea contract situation were 'not ideal timing' but that the Brazilian's negotiations are ongoing.

The 31-year-old is at loggerheads with the Blues over a new deal, with his current contract set to run out this summer.

Negotiations have been ongoing for several months, however the stalemate has come over the winger wanting a three-year deal, but the Blues only willing to give him two.

After the 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, Willian admitted an negotiations were difficult, saying: "Chelsea offered me two years, and they are not going to change what they offered.

"I said I wanted three more years. The situation is difficult because of this, I really don't know if it will be possible.

"My goal is to continue working and focus on the remainder of the season, so that Chelsea can continue winning the games for the remainder of the season.

"I have a clear head and am focused for the rest of the season that we have left."

Lampard has admitted in the past that he was keen for the Blues to come to an agreement with Willian to get a new contract signed.

However, the Blues boss admitted that Willian's comments maybe having come at the greatest moment with the Blues with a big test to make the Premier League's top four.

"It’s an ongoing conversation," Lampard said. "Maybe not ideal timing but I get asked every three days here, players get asked after games and it’s not always easy for them. People want some form of answer.

"Conversations are ongoing but at the minute I don’t want to get too drawn into it because I am the manager of the team and don’t want to look too far down towards the summer.

"It’s why some of the headlines this week had a slight sense of frustration for me because we are working day to day to finish the job this season and we are not jumping ahead to the summer.

"But Willy’s one is an ongoing situation. It’s not over. We’ll see."
