'Not good enough' - Pundit pinpoints how Nottingham Forest can solve biggest issue

Nottingham Forest might be creating chances in games - but they are not ones which are good enough to solve their goalscoring problem, according to one pundit.

The Reds have struggled to find the back of the net all season. And they drew another blank at Watford as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

It was a second successive loss by that scoreline for Chris Hughton’s side, who have hit just three goals in their last seven matches.

Boss Hughton says it is not just down to the forwards to help address that issue, calling on the rest of the team to start chipping in, including from set-pieces.

But Curtis Davies, who analysed this afternoon’s game on Sky Sports, argues Forest need to improve the quality of the opportunities they create.

“If you look at it, they are sixth in the league in terms of attempts, but when it comes to accuracy, they’re last,” he said.

“It’s not a case that you’re actually creating the chances - it’s that the chances probably aren’t good enough and that’s why you’re not converting them, or you’re having to resort to long shots and things like that.

“Second half, the balls coming into the box were a lot better. The defenders had to actually head balls clear and put their bodies on the line, but it wasn’t enough.

“They needed a Plan B. It wasn’t enough to just say, ‘we’re going to send loads of balls in the box’.”

Fellow pundit Danny Cowley added: “I thought they were significantly better in the second half. The subs Chris Hughton made were good subs.

"Cafu came on and gave them some control in there, and started to switch the play.

“They were starting to get some overloads in the wide areas.

“(Joe) Lolley came on and played on the left. I prefer him on the right, but they’ve got the problem that (Anthony) Knockaert and Lolley both do better from the right-hand side.”
