Fans of the long-running BBC sitcom Not Going Out have reacted to Bobby Ball’s appearance in the show’s new Christmas special.
Ball, the comedian best known as half of the double act Cannon & Ball, died on 28 October at the age of 76, after being diagnosed with coronavirus.
In the festive episode, which aired on BBC One yesterday (30 December), Ball appears in the role of Frank, the father of Lee (Lee Mack).
Ball filmed the episode mere weeks before his death, and will also appear in the forthcoming 11th series.
Viewers have shared their emotional responses to Ball’s re-appearance, with some saying the episode brought them to tears.
Actor and presenter Les Dennis wrote: “Bobby Ball was wonderful in Not Going Out tonight. I did a Would I Lie To You just before he passed. Lee Mack spoke with such affection for him. Miss your huge warmth and talent. #rockontommy.”
One viewer described the episode as “incredibly poignant”, adding that it was “really sad seeing Bobby Ball there, he brought so much heart to this show”.
“Absolutely brilliant show this evening and as always a fabulous performance by Bobby Ball,” wrote another. “A very sad loss of a great comedian and all round performer.”
