Not everybody loves Liverpool's Xherdan Shaqiri as Takumi Minamino singled out

Not every game can be a classic. And Liverpool's latest Champions League encounter can most certainly be filed under forgettable.

That said, Jurgen Klopp's side did continue their 100% start to Group D with a hard-earned 2-0 win over FC Midtjylland at Anfield on Tuesday.

Diogo Jota and substitute Mohamed Salah scored the goals to earn the Reds a third win inside a week and extend their unbeaten record after the 7-2 humbling at Aston Villa earlier in the month.

Your truly was on ratings duty for the ECHO and there was one clear standout.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's all-round contribution at both ends of the field earned the right-back a top score of 9.

Just behind him was Joe Gomez on 8, who impressed particularly having lost Fabinho as his centre-back partner through injury after half-an-hour.

Most of the rest of the Liverpool team scored 7, although both Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi could only muster 5.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were unanimous in who to praise for Liverpool - and who to criticise.

The Mail do things by halves and put Alexander-Arnold top on 7.5 ahead of substitute Rhys Williams on 7. Minamino and Origi notched just 5.5.

The Daily Star also had Alexander-Arnold leading the way, giving him an 8. Minamino scored 5.

The Express went with Alexander-Arnold on 8, while Minamino, James Milner and Andy Robertson struggled to 5.

The Independent regarded Alexander-Arnold and Gomez best with 8, although Xherdan Shaqiri was surprisingly handed only 5 and Origi 4.

Meanwhile, The Times regarded Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker the top performers on 8 while Minamino and Origi were at the other end of the scale with 5.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Jota was the highlight with 7.97. Minamino was the lowest of the starters on 6.03.
