'Not even close' - Liverpool fans take aim at VAR after Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United goal

Liverpool fans have questioned the consistency of VAR after Mason Greenwood’s goal for Manchester United last night was allowed to stand.

The youngster fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side ahead in the first half of their Champions League clash against RB Leipzig, after latching onto a Paul Pogba through ball.

Greenwood, however, appeared to be ever so slightly beyond the last defender as fired the ball past Peter Gulacsi.

But the extra official did not rule out the strike, and allowed the goal to stand, much to the annoyance of some Reds fans on Twitter.

Many felt there was no difference between Greenwood’s goal and Jordan Henderson's last minute strike in the Merseyside derby that was ruled out for a Sadio Mane offside by VAR.

One fan wrote: "For Mane's goal not to count last week and Greenwood's to stand today just shows how disgraceful VAR is.

"Zero chance, literally no chance in the world, that Mane was more offside than Greenwood. Not even close!"

While another added: "How was Greenwood onside last night and Sadio Mane given off, how on earth????

"What is going on with VAR what the hell"

An third said: "VAR have checked that the player involved wasn’t Sadio Mane & have awarded the goal".

Before a fourth added: "VAR ruled out Sadio Mane's goal against Everton and just allowed Mason Greenwood's".

Marcus Rashford came off the bench in the second half to score a clinical hat-trick as United ended up securing a comfortable 5-0 victory over the German side at Old Trafford.
