‘Not even a rinse’: Costco shopper catches customer returning hot tub. Then they see the state it’s in

“These Costco returns going too far,” one man concluded after he caught a shopper returning a deplorable-looking hot tub to the warehouse club. TikToker @whodiiniii shared footage of the used hot tub in a viral clip, which has earned over 550,000 views as of Wednesday.

The creator’s clip begins with him filming a large, filthy hot tub sitting on a flat bed cart at Costco’s customer service section. It was still mostly inflated. @whodiiniii writes in the text overlay: “Not even a rinse,” as the TikTok audio says, “Look, look, look come look at this.”

Viewers slam the Costco shopper

Several of @whodiiniii’s viewers found the nameless shopper’s return “shameful” and worried Costco would change its return policy if folks continued to absue it.

“People have no shame,” a top comment read. “I could never.” Another asked why would @whodiiniii expect them to rinse it when “they didn’t even let the air out.”

One user shared a possible explanation for the return: “Those pumps are garbage. Ours quit after a month. Warranty took forever to respond. Didn’t do anything for us.”

Other viewers revealed their own wild Costco returns. For example, one who identified themselves as a former Costco worker wrote, “Worked at the Costco depot warehouse and they’d return withered Christmas trees after the holiday. People are RIDICULOUS.”

“Ive seen someone return cooked chicken to costco,” another claimed.

Some, however, felt the fault lay with the chain.

“That’s on Costco, they let people return anything,” they said. Do they really?

Costco’s famous return policy

Costco’s current return policy states that they will accept returns on “any product [it] sells” and will refund the purchase price. However, it does have some exceptions, which include:

  • Electronics
  • Diamonds
  • Cigarettes and alcohol
  • Products with a limited useful life expectancy, such as tires and batteries
  • Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs: Custom product(s) manufactured to our member’s personal and unique specifications cannot be returned or refunded, except for warranty repair/replacement due to failure to meet specifications.

Folks have long criticized members who return items in clearly used condition–or even products that are decades old. This isn’t the first time a faceless shopper has been blasted online for their return. In another viral clip, a woman filmed a shopper returning a grill that was almost charred beyond recognition. One shopper even admitted to receiving a refund after he returned a playground set he purchased in 2008 because “his kids grew up.”

And it’s not just objects that stand the test of time, either. The Mary Sue reported on a man who was caught returning dead flowers to the warehouse club. “May this love never find me,” one of the viewers said about the act.
