'Not at the races' – Michael Dawson's brutal Leeds United's assessment after Southampton loss

Leeds United's 1-0 loss to Southampton at St Mary's Stadium was 'concerning', says Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson.

Armando Broja struck his maiden Premier League goal as Southampton picked up an overdue first win of the season by deservedly beating Leeds 1-0 on the south coast.

Leeds had to make do without Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha due to injury and international commitments, whikle Patrick Bamford remained ruled out through an ankle injury, Robin Koch was sidelined with a pelvis injury and Luke Ayling unable to play due to his knee injury.

The absentees forced Marcelo Bielsa into a reshuffle, but Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson said the performance was 'concerning' despite the players who are unavailable.

Dawson told Soccer Saturday: "It could have been more. Without having too many clear-cut chances, Southampton dominated that game from minute one with 19 attempts.

"Leeds just weren't at the races, but I was really impressed by Southampton – Diallo and Romeu in the middle of the park.

"Leeds just didn't get after them it was the opposite way around, Southampton just hounded them all over the park and they couldn't get out.

"Klich, Harrison and James, James was disappointing.

"Broja was just brilliant, he caused the back three of Llorente, Struijk and Cooper trouble all afternoon and after watching Leeds two weeks ago, against Watford, the table just turned.

"They were in charge of that game, today they were so, so, so disappointing, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Yes, when you have no Phillips, Luke Ayling, Raphinha, Bamford, four of your best players out, but you look at that team and that squad and it was concerning today."

The pundit also said Southampton had ultimately been deserving of the win

He added: "I was surprised and you looked at the subs he brought on Summerville, Forshaw, Gelhardt, I think, how were they gonna change and I could see he was, Bielsa was fuming.

"You could see, with the changes he made, bringing Rodrigo on and he was non-existent.

"We talk about a centre forward getting service, he got none of that. He didn't even put himself about.

"Southampton were well deserving of the win."
