"Not all heroes wear capes" - ECHO readers praise brave primary school caretaker

The caretaker from a primary school in Seaforth has been praised for his "selfless" and "heroic" actions after an armed intruder entered the school.

ECHO readers have taken to social media to thank the member of staff at Rimrose Hope Church of England Primary School who confronted the intruder after spotting him on CCTV.

The caretaker known as "Mr Rogers" saw the suspected and approached him. But, when confronted, the intruder pulled a knife and slashed him on the arm before running away.

A man waiting outside the school for his wife, a teacher, said that after the caretaker was attacked he locked all the staff and children into the classrooms to keep them safe.

Another man at the scene told ECHO: “He completely disregarded his own safety in order to protect the children. He’s a hero.”

Once news of the police incident was posted to social media, hundreds of comments flooded in hailing the caretaker and thanking him for protecting the children.

Emma Neill said: "He's a true hero! A man I would be proud to have as a protector for my child at school.

"Please pass on our best wishes for fast healing and a speedy emotional recovery. #notallheroswearcapes "

Rachel Jayne Mansfield also said: "I hope he's ok? He's a true hero! We need more people like him! Sending love, light & healing vibes his way."

Tracy Waters added: "What a man thinking of others before himself!"

Some even called for the caretaker to receive a pay rise.

@oneofthosenonvegans commented: "Good job caretaker, an inspiration to many.

"We need more people like him out there. Give the guy a pay rise."

Many readers were concerned over whether the caretaker was ok after the incident.

Merseyside Police said: "A member of staff received a minor injury to their arm. No children were injured."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service also confirmed that they were called to the scene: "We were called to the scene at 4.46pm.

"An ambulance and a number of rapid response vehicles were sent to deal with the incident.

"Paramedics attended to minor injuries at the scene but no one was taken to hospital."

Rimrose Hope Primary School has been approached for comment regarding the brave actions of the caretaker.
