'Not a big loss' - Sunderland fans react with Reece James set to join Doncaster Rovers

Sunderland fans have offered mixed reactions at the prospect of Sunderland left-back Reece James leaving the club this summer.

James could be set to join Doncaster Rovers - just a week after the Black Cats confirmed he had signed a new contract on Wearside.

Former Wigan Athletic left-back  James  signed for  Sunderland  last summer on an initial one-year deal, abd last week owner  Stewart Donald  confirmed that the 25-year-old had committed himself to another season.

But League One rivals Doncaster have since seen Danny Andrew join Joey Barton's Fleetwood Town as a free agent, and they have turned to James as his replacement.

James competed against both Denver Hume and Bryan Oviedo for the left-back berth last season and although Oviedo is expected to leave this term, it is believed Jack Ross is ready to promote Hume to his first choice at left-back.

It means James is now set for the exit door although the news hasn't exactly rocked Sunderland fans.

At the time of writing, 75 per cent of fans who voted in our Twitter poll were happy to see Sunderland cashing in on the full-back they signed on a free transfer last summer.

And that was largely reflected in the reaction on social media.

Aidan tweeted: "Not bothered about Reece James leaving to be honest. Replaceable, he's a bang average full-back and we can easilly get just as good or better."

Alan Watson added: "People losing their minds over James leaving, he was all right but nothing special, plus didn't we sign him on a free so we've made money on him?"

Josh Bunting continued: "Reece James set to leave Sunderland to Doncaster, tried his best not anything special better going forward than defensively. Not a big loss at the Stadium of Light but wish him well."

However, David Hindmarsh countered: "Selling Reece James is a mistake, no doubt about it. Especially if Oviedo is leaving, Hume isn’t good enough to be first or second choice at this level."
