Not 15 metres, Anand Vihar RRTS station to be 8 metres below ground

GHAZIABAD: The NCR transport corporation (NCRTC) is making changes to the design of the Anand Vihar RRTS station to provide a seamless interchange for passengers to take the metro or buses from the inter-state terminal.

In its preliminary detailed project report, NCRTC had planned to construct the RRTS station 15 metres below the ground. But it found that metro infrastructure already existed at that level. So, it has now decided to build the RRTS station just eight metres below the ground. The concourse will be constructed at the ground level itself.

“Anand Vihar will have the distinction of being the only RRTS station to be constructed only one level below the ground. This unique station design will also ensure seamless and easy movement of passengers from one mode of transport to another,” an NCRTC official said.

“Redesigning the Anand Vihar RRTS station was necessitated because the existing foundation of the metro route was coming in the way of the corridor. So, instead of 15 metres below ground, we will construct the station at only eight metres. The new station will also be beneficial for the elderly, children, handicapped and passengers with luggage. They wouldn’t have to walk down or climb much to catch the RRTS trains,” the official added.

Being close to the existing transport infrastructure, the upcoming station will ensure RRTS passengers don’t have to step out on the road to take the metro or vice-versa. “Such a seamless integration will provide a safe, comfortable and hassle-free travel experience to the commuters. It will also cut down their travel time,” the official said.

The Anand Vihar RRTS station will be 297 metres long and 35 metres wide. For the convenience of passengers, the station will have three lifts (one with access to the platform and two to connect to the trains), five escalators (three to get to the platform and two to connect to the metro), and two entry/exit gates.

While one of the gates will open towards the Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, the other will lead to the Anand Vihar railway station.
