Norwich star Jamal Lewis never hid Liverpool admiration as Reds chase left-back deal

Liverpool had a £10million bid for Norwich full-back Jamal Lewis rejected on Thursday.

The Northern Ireland international is reportedly 'desperate' to seal a switch to Anfield, and the Reds are keen on acquiring him.

Looking back throughout last season Lewis's admiration of Jurgen Klopp's outfit has became clear.

Lewis, who was a standout player for the Canaries in spite of their eventual relegation, revealed how much he admires Liverpool's star men on multiple occasions.

In an interview earlier in the season Lewis was asked which Premier League player he thought was the best out of those he face on the left flank.

He told: "Obviously I've got to say [Mohamed] Salah. Salah was up there. But performance wise I liked Anderson from West Ham."

Asked how fast the Egyptian winger is, the left-back said: "He's sharp. That's the right way to describe him.

"He's not maybe like [Sadio] Mane quick or [Virgil] van Dijk quick [but he's quick]."

Lewis featured in the 2019/20 campaign opener against Liverpool and went on to rack up 28 top flight appearances.

"Van Dijk is quick you know," he added. "He doesn't look it. He's just kind of them long strides but yeah [he's quick].

"That's what it is as well in the Prem (Premier League) all of these guys are just so sharp mentally. They are all athletes and they are all sharp mentally.

"Like with Salah I think he kind of, when I was playing against him, he gauged that I was quite athletic so he just started playing one touch and running.

"In the Championship you wouldn't do that they just try and do what they know. So it is good to start getting exposed to that kind of quality."

In another interview for BBC Sport, team-mate Todd Cantwell asked: "Who is the best wing-back in the league?"

The 22-year-old responded: "I feel like you've got to go [with] one of the Liverpool duo, they are so good.

"You can't deny Trent [Alexander-Arnold]'s deliveries. He's unbelievable. So, at this moment in time I am going to say Trent."
