Norwich's latest signing puts end to Newcastle interest

Newcastle United have watched Manchester United's versatile young full-back, Brandon Williams, for some time now.

However, that interest has now concluded - for this season at least - as Norwich City have secured his signature on loan for the season.

The young full-back has already made 50 first-team appearances in all competitions for Manchester United but has moved in order to find consistent game-time due to heavy competition for places at Old Trafford.

Steve Bruce has been a fan of the player for a while and felt that his relationship with many of the coaches at Manchester United, where he had such great success as a player, might stand him in good stead in terms of a move for the highly-rated Williams.

However, Daniel Farke's Norwich makes sense as a destination in Manchester United's case. Although Newcastle may finish above Norwich, the Canaries have a record of blooding young players in the Premier League, with names such as Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis, Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell all thriving in the league during the 2019/20 season, despite their club's relegation from the division. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope that Williams will thrive similarly during his loan spell at Carrow Road.

Chelsea have also trusted Norwich as a good club to develop their top young talent as they have loaned Scottish teenage sensation, Billy Gilmour to the club.

It's unclear whether Newcastle made a serious move for the player this summer, although they were linked heavily in the previous transfer window.
