Norwich Premiership youth chance 'definitely motivates' Wishaw goalkeeper after signing new deal

Wishaw goalkeeper Jon McCracken says watching Norwich's young stars get their Premiership shot this season is an inspiration.

The 20-year-old has signed a new deal at the Canaries to keep him at the club for next season.

Having watched his former teammates at under-18 and under-23 level make their step up to Daniel Farke's first-team in the English top flight, McCracken hopes to be able to follow in their footsteps.

As City prepare for life in the Championship next term, he said: "I know a lot of the boys who have come through; it's obviously a young squad we've got.

"I've been with these guys through the under-18 and under-23 teams so it's been good to see them get their chance.

"The club show that they are not scared to play the young boys and it definitely motivates you and encourages you to keep trying.

"Norwich are a club that promote the youth and anything can happen in football, so I just need to keep working away.

"It's been great for me to see what everyone is capable of."

Having had a season blighted by injury last term, the Lanarkshire shot-stopper was delighted to have the chance to prove himself once again.

McCracken says he his focus is on fitness after penning the one-year-deal.

He added: "I was injured for most of last season and came back just as the pandemic started.

"I was scheduled to play a game again, then we were told to go back home for lockdown, so that was a bit if a gutter.

"Thankfully I managed to get a contract in the time that I was fit.

"Now I'm just looking forward to cracking on and getting the full of next season under my belt.

"I want to get a good pre-season under my belt, which I wasn't able to do last season, and see what happens from there.

"Then I'll hopefully get some games in and maybe go out on loan, but that's looking a bit ahead.

"I just want to make sure my fitness is; a loan isn't on my mind just yet but I want to get up to speed."
