Norwich confirm ex-Arsenal star Jack Wilshere is not a contender to be appointed next manager

Jack Wilshere is not in the running to become Norwich’s manager on a permanent basis.

The former Arsenal midfielder was in charge of Norwich for their final two Championship games of the season following the sacking of Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Wilshere oversaw a goalless draw at Middlesbrough and a victory against Cardiff on the final day of the season in his two games.

Norwich’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, has confirmed, though, that Wilshere is not a contender to become the club’s new manager.

The Canaries are instead looking externally for their new boss and the recruitment process is now underway.

"Jack is a fantastic person, he and I have a big history together," Knapper told the BBC.

"He's a great coach and will be a fantastic head coach, but that's not going to be here at this particular moment in time."

Wilshere has been at Norwich since October last year after joining them as a first-team coach.

Prior to that, he had been working at Arsenal as their Under-18 manager.

Wilshere enjoyed a successful stint with the Gunners’ youth team and led them to the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2023.

He joined Norwich as it gave him the opportunity to progress his career by working in a first-team environment.
