EFL gives last-minute bail out as Norwich City star Pukki scoops top honour

Teemu Pukki has been named best player in the Championship following a stellar campaign for Norwich.

The former Celtic striker has scored 26 goals and laid on nine more in just 37 games for the Canaries so far this term.

The Finnish frontman collected the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season award at the EFL Awards in London last night.

The 29-year-old pipped Sheffield United's Billy Sharp and Birmingham City's Che Adams to the prize.

Meanwhile, his Norwich teammate Max Aarons scooped up the Young Player of the Season award.

Bolton given advance

Bolton were given £160,000 to make sure their game against Ipswich went ahead, the BBC reports

The EFL approved the payment early so non-playing staff could be paid.

It was due to be paid in the middle of the month.

The game was only given the go-ahead on Thursday after the Safety Advisory Group lifted a prohibition order stopping fans from entering the stadium.

EFL not keeping racism records

The FA, EFL and Premier League do not keep records of incidents of racist abuse by fans towards players, according to Sky Sports .

The policy is for the police to investigate instead.

The EFL says it is not required to collate records of racism incidents as the league does not have the legislative powers to act on them.

There were several incidents of racism over the weekend in the EFL.

Wigan's Nathan Byrne was sent a vile racist message on Twitter, Brentford said they "utterly condemn discrimination" after a season-ticket holder was arrested following a claim of abuse directed at Derby midfielder Duane Holmes, while Northampton said several members of their first-team squad were allegedly abused prior to their match at Notts County.
