Norwich City star Kenny McLean hails quality of his title winning side

Kenny McLean has praised Norwich City's quality to deliver week in, week out after the Canaries claimed the Championship crown with a game to spare.

The Cambuslang man helped City secure an immediate return to the English Premier League - following last season's relegation - with a 4-1 win over Reading, marching eight points clear of second place Watford.

Norwich had already secured promotion last week, but now they will have some silverware to show for their efforts this season.

McLean joined the squad to celebrate outside Carrow Road with the fans who turned up to savour the moment, despite the clash being played behind closed doors.

And the jubilant Scotland international was full of praise for his team-mates, which includes national team colleague Grant Hanley, as he secured a second promotion during his three years with the club.

He told the Norwich City website : "It’s hard to put into words. It’s been a long old season, a grind at times but I don’t think anyone can take this away from us.

"No arrogance or disrespect to anyone else but we’re the best team and nobody will argue that.

“We got promotion a couple of weeks ago and finished the job today.

"You don’t want to speak about it at the start of the season, when you get relegated it’s hard but it’s shown because not a lot of teams come straight back up.

“We knew we had so much quality in this changing room, it was just about going to deliver it week after week.

"We continued to produce and the quality we’ve shown has been outstanding at times.

"There were a few bumps in the road along the way but we got the job done.

“When we play like that at this level we’re tough to stop and I think we’ve shown that too much this season for a lot of teams."

City were relegated from the top flight last season after finishing rock bottom, but they have come roaring back winning 29 of their 45 games played so far, and losing just seven times.

McLean, who signed a three-year extension earlier this season, added: "A lot of players who were in the Premier League were still here and you don’t forget that feeling when relegation happens - the hurt that everybody felt - you don’t want that in your career and we’ve felt that.

“We trust what Stuart [Webber, the sporting director] and the manager [Daniel Farke] will do over the summer.

"Whatever that brings, it will make us better. We’ll enjoy this moment but when that comes we’ll be ready.

“We’ll enjoy it. You’ve got to. Players go through unbelievable careers without winning a title. Enjoy this for what it is. For Tetts, this is his third promotion.

"A lot of us won it a couple of years ago. You need to enjoy these moments because they don’t come around often.”
