Norwich City look set to beat Celtic, Barnsley and Bristol City to midfielder - report

Norwich City are reported as being close to winning the race for the signature of Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull.

The 19-year-old driving force from the middle of the pitch was being touted for a move to Carrow Road late on Tuesday night after intense speculation over the player's future for the last week.

Barnsley, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday have all been credited with an interest in the midfielder, while Celtic looked to have won the race initially after an agreeing a £3m fee with the Well.

Instead, it looks as though Daniel Farke is about to swoop with multiple outlets explaining that a £3.25m arrangement has been agreed for the young player of the year nomination to head South.

BBC Sport Scotland confirmed the news later in the day with the Fir Park outfit set to lose the player who netted 15 goals for his boyhood side last season.

According to our sources, the Robins did hold an interest in the player tipped for a big future, but Lee Johnson's side never looked like leading the running.

Celtic, meanwhile, were reported to have dropped their interest yesterday following the snub.

The Scottish Premiership champions agreed the terms of a move with Turnbull's club late last week before going public on their inability to agree a financial deal with the player and his representative.

Now it looks like a move to the English top tier has materialised instead.
