Norwich City exit explained as star shelves transfer chat after Canaries confirmation

Reece McAlear has shelved all thoughts on his future after a turbulent Friday for the Motherwell youth academy product.

The midfielder left Fir Park for Norwich City in 2019 but it was announced before the weekend that he was to be released this summer.

He responded to that with a stunning double for loan club Inverness in Friday's 2-2 draw with St Johnstone in the Premiership play-off first leg.

Saints had stormed into a two-goal lead but McAlear grabbed his own brace, the leveller a fantastic free-kick from long-range.

He will be a free agent this summer after Norwich confirmation that he would not be offered an extended contract after one senior appearance at Carrow Road.

Racking up 42 outings for Billy Dodds' promotion-chasing side this season, McAlear says he'll go on holiday before deciding his next move, along with hopefully returning Inverness to the top flight.

He told Press and Journal : "It could be my last game, I don’t know, I will decide after that. I just need to do my best to try and take Inverness back to the Premiership.

"We’ll see what happens. I will go on holiday first. We were getting tired on Friday, but there is a togetherness and push us on together. We have played six games in three weeks.

“But we were 2-0 down and we came back to 2-2 and it’s all to play for in the second leg. We have a belief to win the game."
