Norwich City announce Kenny McLean is ruled out of Euros for Scotland

Norwich City have confirmed Kenny McLean will miss the European Championships with Scotland after "significant damage" to his right knee.

The 29-year-old suffered a knee ligament injury during the Canaries' 2-2 draw with Barnsley in their final game of the season and the news is a cruel blow to the midfielder ahead of an historic summer for the national side.

McLean - who won the English Championship title with Norwich - helped fire Scotland to their first major tournament in 23 years with penalties in the play-off shootout wins over Israel and Serbia but will play no part in the finals.

A statement from Norwich City read: "Kenny McLean is set to be out of action for a period of 12 weeks following confirmation of a knee ligament injury.

"The Scottish midfielder was forced from the field of play following a heavy challenge in the 52nd minute of City’s 2-2 Sky Bet Championship draw away at Barnsley.

"Subsequent scans and further assessments have since revealed significant damage to the medial collateral ligament in McLean’s right knee.

"McLean will now undergo further assessment with an orthopaedic consultant to ascertain a management and rehabilitation plan for the injury.

"The injury will rule McLean out of Scotland’s upcoming UEFA European Championship campaign."
