Norwich 3-2 Man City: Champions suffer shock defeat as calamitous defending helps Canaries to big win

Manchester City suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Norwich to hand Liverpool the early advantage in the 2019-20 Premier League title race.

Calamitous defending helped the Canaries to a huge win who continued their mightily impressive start to the campaign at Carrow Road.

The defeat leaves City five points adrift of pace-setting Liverpool at the top of the table after the Reds beat Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield earlier on Saturday.

Kenny McLean nodded Norwich in front as he thumped a header past Ederson from Emiliano Buendia's corner.

And City were shocked further when Todd Cantwell doubled Norwich's advantage.

Teemu Pukki sprung the offside trap as Kyle Walker tracked Cantwell, but the England defender left his man to try and cut off Pukki's pass into his teammate's path, leaving Cantwell with a simple finish.

Sergio Aguero scored with his eighth successive shot on target in the Premier League just before the break to pull one back, but hopeless defending allowed Norwich to re-open the two-goal buffer five minutes into the second half.

Nicolas Otamendi dithered in possession and had his pocket picked by Buendia, who scared for Pukki to calmly finish and make it 3-1.

Rodri struck from outside the area to score his first City goal in the 88th minute, but City could not find a leveller.
