Police have arrested a Norwegian national for possession of child pornography.
The Department of Special Investigations (DSI), together with the crime suppression and immigration officers at the northeastern province of Chaiyaphum said yesterday they have arrested Stig Kvale, 57.
Sources within the department said he was found to be HIV positive.
He was taken into custody after foreign intelligence agencies notified the DSI that Mr Kvale was wanted on charges related to drug-trafficking and 11 counts of sexual harassment against under-aged children in his home country.
A Norwegian court has already found him guilty in 11 of the cases but he subsequently fled to Thailand and married a Thai woman, the sources said.
When officers raided his home in Muang district of this northeastern province, they found him watching child pornography on his computer, police said.
The DSI found a large cache of child pornography and charged Mr Kvale accordingly.
Police said they are also working with the immigration authorities in Chaiyaphum to strip Mr Kvale of his Thai visa and have him deported to Norway.
The DSI will transfer his computer to the Central Institute of Forensic Science at the Ministry of Justice to see if any Thai children were among his collection.
