'Norwegian Messi, unreal' - Arsenal fans go nuts over Martin Odegaard loan transfer

Mikel Arteta has been busy compared to his fellow Premier League rivals in January after completing Arsenal's third incoming piece of business.

The Gunners have already signed young defender Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin and followed that up with the loan signing of goalkeeper Mat Ryan from Brighton.

Now, the arrival of Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid has made it a hat-trick of mid-season additions for Arsenal.

The 22-year-old arrives to provide a boost in creativity from midfield, something Arsenal have often lacked this season, and eases the growing pressure on Emile Smith Rowe.

Highly-rated after making the move to the Spanish capital at the age of just 16, Odegaard leaves Zinedine Zidane's side on a temporary basis as he seeks more regular opportunities.

Those should be forthcoming at Arsenal in the second half of the season, as Arteta balances the Premier League campaign alongside the Europa League knockout stages.

Fans on social media flooded to share their thoughts on the capture of the Norway international, with many identifying the boost he provides.

Arsenal do not have a clause allowing them to make the signing permanent at the end of the season and Odegaard, like Dani Ceballos, will return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Between now and then, Odegaard will be aiming to help Arsenal in their quest to bring an end to three seasons outside of the Champions League.
