Norwegian royal-watchers are apparently not too pleased with Princess Ingrid Alexandra, following her decision to study at the University of Sydney in August.
ICYMI, the Princess — the eldest daughter of Norway’s King, Harold V — revealed in April that she had enrolled in a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on international relations and political economy.
While most Aussies were excited for a real-life Princess Diaries to play out on our shores, Alexandra’s move has, in the weeks since it was announced, reportedly been met with disdain among the royal circles of her home country.

That’s according to the Daily Mail Australia, which recently published comments supposedly made by royal-watchers in Norway that expressed concern about Alexandra’s choice of Australia to pursue her studies.
Apparently, critics have questioned Australia, not because it is home to clothesline goon sacks (something Alexandra will undoubtedly encounter at St Andrew’s College), but because of how far away it is, especially given the amount of prestigious universities closer to home in Europe, Britain or the US.
Yeah, but none of them have a Bunnings sausage sizzle, so…
“A university in a country closer to home would have allowed for some royal duties being undertaken intermittently… now Ingrid will definitely be away for three years,” one comment, translated by Daily Mail, read.
Despite supposedly loving etiquette and proper manners, some of the royalists’ comments veered toward nasty, including critics who didn’t take kindly to Australia’s history as a penal colony, and one that likened Alexandra’s move to “fengselsopphold,” which translates to “prison stay”.
Ouch! Or as Mia Thermopolis would say “shut… up!”.

Elsewhere, royalists theorised the reason for Alexandra’s Aussie jaunt, with one speculating she picked the country to be as far away as possible from the scandal engulfing her step-brother Marius Borg Høiby, who was charged with rape and sexual assault last week.
Either that, or she wanted to see a bin chicken in the flesh.
Despite the criticism, Alexandra is moving full steam ahead with her UYSD plans, and will arrive Down Under next month to kick-off her three-year course.
Is anyone gonna tell her about *those* uni rankings?
