Norway mosque shooting: Man injured and suspected gunman arrested in attack near Oslo

An elderly man was injured after a gunman struck at a mosque near Norway's capital city.

An older man sustained light injuries, police told a news conference, but said it was too early to say if the wounds were caused by the gunshots or sustained during the attempt to restrain the gunman.

An initial statement by the police had said one person was shot in the attack.

A man has been apprehended following the attack near to Oslo, police said.

The suspected shooter at the al-Noor Islamic Centre was described as "a young white man", the police added.

The victim was a 75-year-old member of the congregation, mosque director Irfan Mushtaq told TV2.

"The man carried two shotgun-like weapons and a pistol. He broke through a glass door and fired shots," he said.

Only three people were present in the mosque at the time of the attack, preparing for Sunday's celebration of the Eid-al-Adha festival, which up to 1,000 people had been expected to attend, mosque spokesman Waheed Ahmed told Reuters.

The Oslo Police Department said on Twitter that the shooting took place Saturday afternoon in Baerum. It said a suspect was in custody and no one else is thought to have been involved.
