The tragedy happened close to Alta in the north of the country, and is believed to be connected to the Høstsprell music festival.

Another person was seriously injured in the crash, the rescue service said.

There were five passengers and a pilot on board the Airbus AS350 helicopter operated by Norwegian firm Helitrans, it added.

The cause of the crash, which happened at around 5pm local time, was not immediately clear.

He added: "The person receiving treatment at the accident site is believed to be severely injured."
